Fish in Oil to perform at the Belgrade Jazz Festival for the first time
This year’s Belgrade Jazz Festival, 29th in a row, will open on 24th October and close on 28th October. In addition to hosting the greatest names of the world jazz scene, the Festival will welcome a Serbian band called Fish in Oil, scheduled to perform on Saturday, 26th October at 7:30 PM in the Great Hall of the Belgrade Youth Centre. The band has been active since 1993, playing what they have explained as a fusion of different directions and influences with jazz often being a form of expression of various topics in their songs.
“Music is always changing, as are we. We try to improve every day, otherwise we stagnate. Our music today is a sublimation of everything that we love listening to, everything that we once heard and that what we have stored somewhere in our subconscious. Our music is a nostalgic music that holds and carries with it a rebellion without which there would be no history of arts”, explained the band’s guitarist Bratislav Radovanović.
Last year, the band released their first album which they promoted during their last performance at the Belgrade Youth Centre, organised within the Jazz for Free Project!
“Our last performance at the BYC was one of our very first performances with our new percussionist Pappa Nick. We will now be returning to the Belgrade Youth Centre, where we will present our new album called Drnč to the Festival“, said Radovanović. He added that jazz fans should not miss out on this year’s Belgrade Jazz Festival.
“It is very difficult to popularise any values in a country where people are most concerned with surviving the day and where no one has been investing in culture for decades now. I would recommend the visitors of the Festival to try and see as many performers because sadly, there aren’t that many opportunities for our people to attend jazz concerts”, emphasised Radovanović.
Aside Bratislav, Fish in Oil has more members: Dušan Petrović who plays the saxophone, Branislav Radojković who plays the bass, Pappa Nick who plays percussion instruments and Fedja Franklin who is the band’s drummer.
On Saturday, 26th October after Fish in Oil finish performing, Ana Sofrenović will start performing from 9:30 PM in the Grand Hall of the Belgrade Youth Centre where she will present the audience her project Voices, specially prepared in the Festival production. Tickets can be bought from all Еventim ticket offices. The ticket price for both of these performances is 800 dinars!
