BIG BAND RTS’s 65th ANNIVERSARY FEAT. BERT JORIS
Links:
Big Band RTS was founded in 1948 as a pops orchestra with string and wind sections. Its founder and first conductor was Mladen Guteša. After he left for abroad (1953), Vojislav Bubiša Simić took over the lead and, after the separation of the string section, completely redirected the orchestra towards jazz. At the First European Jazz Festival in Juan-les-Pins (France) in 1960, the band won first prize in the big band category, which opened doors for touring Europe and cooperating with numerous jazz masters. The orchestra achieved a record number of performances at the Belgrade Jazz Festival—in the 28-editions-long history of the event, they performed an amazing 12 times! A featured guest at the anniversary performance will be the Belgian trumpet player Bert Joris, one of the most eminent European composers and arrangers of the mid-generation, whose original repertoire will be played by the orchestra for this occasion.
