After their unforgettable performance at the 2010 Belgrade Jazz Festival in the quintet of the famous Italian trumpeter Enrico Rava, Gianluca Petrella (trombone) and Giovanni Guidi (piano) are returning to Belgrade to present their new joint project—duo Soupstar. In addition to numerous awards from the Italian jazz community in various categories, Petrella is the first Italian to win the annual Down Beat Award (in the category Rising Star for trombone). He also received the Paul Acket Award given by the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam to artists deserving wider recognition. After a series of successful albums for the Italian record label CAM Jazz, and positive reviews from Italian and international jazz critics, this year Guidi released his first CD (in a trio format) for the leading international jazz ECM label. Soupstar duo illuminates charm and the excitement of free improvisation, interwoven with an European musical sensibility.
